Two men in their 30s have been arrested in connection with the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree in Northumberland. The tree, believed to be 300 years old, was cut down in what police suspect was a deliberate act of vandalism. The two men have been released on bail while investigations continue. This follows the earlier arrests of a 16-year-old male and a man in his 60s. Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Fenney-Menzies stated that the loss of the landmark has been deeply felt and that the police are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.
