North Korea is reportedly ordering households near the border with China to make nail boards as a deterrent to prevent people from escaping the country. Each family in the city of Hyesan must make two nail boards by hammering long nails into boards that will line the Chinese side of the border fence. This is the latest measure in a series of unmanned deterrents along the 880-mile border, including razor wire, electric fences, and landmines. Citizens are complaining about the additional cost and believe that nail boards are not enough to stop people from escaping.
