Brazil’s federal police are investigating former intelligence chief Alexandre Ramagem as part of a probe into alleged spying on political opponents under former President Jair Bolsonaro. Ramagem was among those targeted by search warrants authorized by the Supreme Court. Police suspect Ramagem used software to monitor targets and public authorities and create false narratives. The investigation is focused on an “organized crime” group within the intelligence agency that allegedly used its tools and services for illicit actions and interference with police investigations. Ramagem denied the allegations in an interview and is also a pre-candidate for mayor in Rio de Janeiro.
