Amnesty International has reported that security forces, separatist rebels, and ethnic militiamen in Cameroon have committed “atrocities” in the country’s Northwest Region. The report highlights executions, torture, and rape, and sheds light on militias drawn from the Mbororo community that have targeted civilians in the region. The report also documents killings, rape, and property destruction by the defense and security forces. The conflict in the Northwest and Southwest regions has resulted in around 6,000 deaths and displaced over a million people. Amnesty expressed concern that countries including Belgium, Britain, France, and Russia continue to supply arms to Cameroon.
