A light infantry battalion with over 120 troops surrendered to ethnic rebels in Myanmar’s Shan state, marking the second time in two weeks that a battalion belonging to the military junta has laid down arms to rebel forces. The battalion, along with its commander and 134 family members, surrendered to the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance. The Three Brotherhood Alliance, consisting of the MNDAA, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army, and the Arakan Army, has taken around 150 military camps in battles throughout Shan state. The junta declared martial law in eight townships in Shan state, but troops in the region haven’t received reinforcements recently.
