Former Alabama police officer Mac Bailey Marquette, 23, has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Steve Perkins, a Black man, during a dispute with a tow truck driver. Perkins was shot and killed in front of his own home on September 29. Marquette responded to the scene and allegedly intentionally killed Perkins with a pistol. Three other officers present were cleared of wrongdoing. The incident, captured on a neighbor’s surveillance camera, has sparked protests in Decatur. Perkins’ family will be allowed to view the body camera footage. Marquette has been released on bond.
