Environmental activists in Kenya marched in the capital, Nairobi, calling for a reduction in plastic production ahead of a global plastics treaty negotiation meeting. Over 170 nations will meet in Nairobi to discuss concrete measures to end plastic pollution. The activists urged the talks to focus on cutting plastic production and emphasized the harmful effects of plastic on the environment and human health. Global plastic production has more than doubled since the start of the century, with less than 10% of plastic waste currently being recycled. Plastic also contributes to global warming, accounting for 3.4% of global emissions in 2019.
