Twelve more hostages held in Gaza have been released after Israel and Hamas extended their cease-fire for an additional 48 hours. In exchange, 30 Palestinians were released from Israeli prisons. This follows the release of dozens of Israeli hostages and over 100 Palestinian prisoners in previous days. The cease-fire extension was negotiated by the US, Qatar, and Egypt and was contingent on the release of women and children held captive by both sides. The temporary pause in fighting is the first since Israel declared war on Hamas after militants killed 1,200 people on October 7.
